From the moment Derek began gaining consciousness, he wished that he could just stay asleep. He rarely got drunk, and even rarer did he experience hangovers.
But by Revan and Malak, he felt like a bantha was stomping on his head.
He did not remember a lot from last night. Except for his decision NOT to join the rest of the crew for the party. Celebrating a new year was pointless, it was just a simple change of one digit in the date. It happened every year. No, he had decided to take advantage of the fact, that everyone was absent for the party. He could get some work done without people interrupting him.
-Until Jupal decided to burst into his office.
He remembered her telling him, that being so boring was outright illegal. Right before she placed several bottles of champagne on his desk, and announced that they were now celebrating the New Year together.
How she had got him to drink, he did not remember. It was not before now, that he even recalled that she normally didn't drink either. Last night he had been more occupied by the surprise that she was wearing a dress. He had never seen her wear anything as feminine as a skirt. An elegant red dress was not something he would have even guessed she owned.
Derek buried his aching head in the mattress. His pillow was for some reason not within his reach.
He had kissed her. He remembered that now. And she had kissed him. Hell, neither of them had even been really drunk at that point.
But he barely had time to feel stupid for kissing one of his officers, before it hit him: How did he know, that her whole back was scarred?
...
Vall, you didn't. You just didn't!
Now he understood why some part of his mind had kept him from turning around to look behind him in the bed. And what had become of his pillow.
